With W7, connecting to multiple displays is very easy compared to Vista and XP. Just press WinKey+P and choose the mode you want. You may duplicate your display, extend your display (this works good when you are using AutoCadd or Sketchup) or show the screen only on your secondary monitor. However, you have to make sure that you have enough video memory so your monitor wont freeze or become framey. Well that's freaky...
Extended display works well with my DirectX-11 enabled video card built into Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family with 358 MB of video memory. And this spec is quite low and cheap enough for most people to afford so almost anyone can enjoy this great new feature of Windows.
