My Inasal – My Life

“Sa Mang Inasal ka nagtratrabaho?”

“Ha?”

“Bakit?”

“Anung ginagawa mo dun?”

 

HMP… ito ang kadalasang tanong sakin ng mga kakilala ko sa tuwing nalalaman nila na sa Mang Inasal ako nagtratrabaho.

“‘Di ba Architecture Graduate ka?”

Oo, sa Mang Inasal ako nagtratrabaho. At proud ako dun.

Ang Mang Inasal ay isang malaking kompanya na may madaming department, madaming employees at madaming offices. Hindi ito basta fast food restaurant.

Sa Mang Inasal ko natutunan ang sobrang daming bagay:

(In chronological order mula noong unang pasok ko sa kompanya)

1. makisama sa ibang lahi
2. mag-fax, mag-photocopy
3. mag-sort ng files
4. mag transfer ng calls
5. mag-fold at mag dry seal ng plano
6. mag-photoshop (basic lang)
7. mag-document
8. gumawa ng bill of materials at building specifications
9. gumawa ng complete working drawings
10. sumakay sa eroplano
11. sumkaya sa eroplano para lang makipagmeeting ng 1 hour sa contractor na nasa baybay dagat
12. mag-ocular inspection
13. makipag-usap sa mga pasaway na mayayamang tao
14. makipag-usap sa mga pasaway na dukhang tao
15. mag-present sa harap ng mga office mates
16. magrender sa kerkythea
17. gumamit ng windows seven
18. gumamit ng dual monitor
19. mag-preside ng meetings (preconstruction and technical presentation)
20. magpasunod ng contractor
21. manakot ng contractor pag ayaw sumunod
22. magcompute ng quantity at tr ng aircon
23. magcheck ng site using my “technical expertise”

Architecture graduate ako… pero madami na akong natutunan sa field ng civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, plumbing at business administration.

I am really thankful na dito ako napunta. It helped me a lot sa technical ability at interpersonal skills.

Now i am more intelligent, assertive (sometimes aggressive) and very equipped with so many pieces of information.

Yung mga klasmeyts ko na nagtratrabaho sa arch’l firm cad operator pa din. Ni hindi naexperience na magdesign ng structure. Tapos minimum lang ang sweldo.

Ako, from CAD Operator, naging Project Inspector, and I am currently the Senior Design Officer of Business Development Department.

Aside from having higher salary (at least with my classmates), andami ko pang benefits and privileges. Yung gadgets ko (including a laptop) provided ng company. I’ve travelled to many places in the country from Laoag to General Santos City. Within 15 months, i had 16 fights na sagot ng kompanya at may kasama pang food allowance, transpo allowance and hotel accomodation. Imagine, i have once flew to Cebu just to attend a 2 hour meeting with contractors. Tapos pasyal pasyal na.

Aside from the usual construction tours, palagi din kaming umaatend sa PhilConstruct, Conex and other exhibits for construction industry. May service na, sagot pa ng company ang entrance namin.

Sa office, hindi naman masyadong mabigat ang trabaho. May time pa para magfacebook at magdownload ng movies. San ka nakakita ng office na nagtratransform into a computer shop na puno ng avid gamers tuwing lunch break.

Well, of course, hindi naman perfect itong kompanyang pinasukan ko. May mga flaws pa din. But for me, it is one of the best companies to work for in our country.

“Sa Mang Inasal? Bakit dun?” tanong si Ms. Librarian.

“Bakit akala mo crew ako?” mayabang kong sabi.

“Senior Design Officer ako dun.”

Siguro i sound really harsh. Pero ito na ako ngayon. Agresibo. Salamat sa Mang Inasal. Kung hindi sa experience dito baka ako pa din yung Dexter na mahiyain, tahimik at walang conviction.
